The Border Security Alliance presented Rep. Juan Ciscomani (R-Ariz.) with its inaugural Border Guardian Award recently for his tireless leadership on border security policies.
鈥淭here are very few leaders in Washington D.C. who are taking this border crisis seriously,鈥 said Border Security Alliance President Jobe Dickinson said. 鈥淲e are fortunate to have Congressman Juan Ciscomani representing the needs of Arizonans and border communities. Congressman Ciscomani has been a champion of commonsense border security solutions since day one in Congress. During a time where bipartisanship is rare, Congressman Ciscomani has led the way on thoughtful and important reforms that impact Arizona鈥檚 southern border. The Border Security Alliance is proud to honor Congressman Ciscomani with the inaugural Border Guardian Award for his dedicated leadership on border security policy.
Ciscomani recently introduced the Federal Lands Amplified Security for the Homeland Act, which aims to address public safety and environmental issues on federal lands along the southern border. It includes provisions for constructing roads, enhancing U.S. Customs and Border Protection access, and mitigating wildland fires caused by illegal immigration. The bill also allows states to place temporary barriers on federal lands and prohibits migrant housing on these lands.
Ciscomani also co-sponsored the Agent Raul Gonzalez Officer Safety Act, which imposes penalties for fleeing from federal officers, including provisions related to criminal and immigration violations. It emphasizes the importance of border enforcement and officer safety.
鈥淥ur border should be an asset, not a liability to our communities and families,鈥 Ciscomani said. 鈥淚n Congress, I鈥檝e focused on the devastating impacts the border crisis has had on Southern Arizona, bringing several delegations from both sides of the aisle to the border in Arizona. There are bad actors coming across and the flow of fentanyl remains a concern; but we also know the trade, tourism, and commerce that flows across our border 鈥 crucial to the economies of communities in Southern Arizona. A fair portion of my time is spent convincing the country that we have a problem on the border and presenting how best to deal with it from the unique lens that being an immigrant, experiencing the system, growing up and raising a family in Southern Arizona provides me. To be recognized by my own, by leaders in Arizona, for what I am working so hard towards is especially meaningful.鈥
The Border Security Alliance is comprised of Arizona leaders who advocate for public policies to secure the northern and southern borders, support Border Patrol and law enforcement, combat human trafficking, drug smuggling, illicit tobacco trade, and protect local communities.
